Legislative Update

As the saying goes, “you win some, and you lose some”! This year, the NPTA PT-PAC donated campaign funds for 10 candidates for this past election. Each candidate met with a NPTA member to discuss the physical therapy profession and our legislative issues and initiatives.  Some enlightening conversations occurred during these meetings and the start of some great relationships! Unfortunately, not all our candidates won this year, but you never know what might happen in the future. The elected candidates that we supported were Megan Hunt (District 8), Wendy Deboer (still undecided at this time – District 10), John Arch (District 14), John McCollister (District 20), Mike Moser (District 22), and Adam Morfeld (District 46).  We supported 4 other candidates that were not elected this year. We selected candidates to support based not only on views on health care issues but potential willingness to work in a collaborative manner per our legislative lobbyist. A huge thank you for the NPTA members who met with these candidates! We truly appreciate it very much!

Please plan on attending the NPTA Legislative Breakfast on February 5, 2019. This is a great opportunity to meet with your senator from your district in an easy and fun way! This year we will need to meet offsite before we go over to the senators’ offices since the Capitol building is being remodeled. More information will be forthcoming.

We are continuing advocacy efforts regarding continued issues with Heritage Health, Managed Care Medicaid. We are still seeing excessive administrative burden with frequent audits and pre-authorization difficulties. We are working with the Nebraska’s AOTA and Speech and Hearing Association to meet with the Medicaid director by the end of the year.
