Annual Conference Cancelled Due To Corona Virus

To Members of the Nebraska Chapter of the APTA:

I am sad to report that the Executive Board of the Nebraska Chapter of the APTA made the decision today, Friday, March 13th to cancel the Spring Business Meeting and Education Conference due to the COVID-19 pandemic.   It was after careful thought and deliberation that this decision was made.  We utilized information from the CDC, World Health Organization and local health departments in making this decision.   In these uncertain times, we wanted to make sure that we were prudent in this decision and decided to make this decision sooner instead of later.

Several factors went into this decision:

  1. Plane travel is not recommended at this time and most businesses and universities have cancelled all non-essential travel. We did not want to put our wonderful speakers at risk for infection or quarantine.
  2. UNMC where the conference was going to be held already suspended all conferences in their facilities of 200 or more. We had 196 at our conference last year. It also sounds now that any gatherings of 50 or more will be cancelled for the next 8 weeks, also.

Anybody that has already registered, will get their registration fees refunded.  Erin Isenhart, our Executive Director, informed me that with online registration, this will be an easy process to refund money electronically.

I want to personally thank the Education Committee, under the leadership of Nick Weber, our Vice President, for putting together a great conference for us.  Being on a program committee both for the Nebraska Chapter and for the HPA-The Catalyst section, I know the hard work it takes to put a conference together. It is really devastating to then not see it to fruition.   Please join me in thanking our Education Committee co-chairpersons for their hard work, Jennifer Bruursema and Alex Habegger.

The Executive Board over the next several months will determine our next course of action regarding 2020 business meetings, conferences and other educational programming.  If we decide not to do an educational program this year, we do need to have at least one membership business meeting per our bylaws.  We have several ideas already about what we can do to engage our members this year!

Sincerely yours,

Grace Knott PT

Nebraska Chapter of the APTA President
